About us

There's a person behind Ecom Tools, not a content agency

I'm Dominik Reuter. Since 2023 I've been testing the tools people use to build, market and run online shops in German-speaking Europe – and writing down what they're actually worth.

Why Ecom Tools exists

People starting out in e-commerce don't suffer from too little information – they suffer from too much. There are twenty tools for every problem and twenty recommendations for every tool, and a striking number of them read as if the author never opened the product.

On top of that comes a problem specific to the DACH region: most tool recommendations online are written for the US market. Whether a piece of software has a German interface, offers a data processing agreement, can handle German tax rules, or whether support replies when you write in German – that's rarely covered. And yet it's precisely the difference between a tool that works and one you cancel after three weeks.

Ecom Tools is an attempt to close that gap: honest, recalculable tool reviews from a German-speaking perspective – plus the groundwork knowledge you need when starting out anyway.

Who does the testing

I hold a B.Sc. in E-Commerce (THWS Würzburg-Schweinfurt) – that's the theoretical foundation. The practical part matters more: my own projects and launches, plus work with larger brands, from shop UX through to fulfilment. I know where things get stuck day to day because I've stood at most of those points myself.

That doesn't make me the world's leading expert in every tool category. It means I set up every tool myself before writing about it – and that I say so explicitly when an assessment rests on something I couldn't verify first-hand.

What we stand for

  • Weaknesses first. Every review says where a tool loses points – including when there's a partner programme behind it.
  • Recalculable, not gut feeling. Every rating is made up of five individual scores you can add up yourself.
  • DACH perspective. GDPR, German invoicing logic, German-speaking support – these are scoring criteria for us, not a footnote.
  • No paid placements. No vendor can buy a review or a better score, and nobody gets to approve an article in advance.
  • Corrections instead of silence. Prices and features change. When something no longer holds, the review gets updated – with a new date on it.

How we're funded

Through affiliate commissions. If you buy through a link marked with an asterisk (*), we receive a share – at no extra cost to you. What that means for our ratings, and where we deliberately draw the line, is spelled out on How we test.

Tell us what's missing

Missing a tool, spotted an error, or had a completely different experience with something we reviewed? We genuinely want to hear it – a large share of our topics comes from messages like that.
