IT-Recht Kanzlei Review 2026: Legal Texts for Selling in Germany, Pricing and Cancellation

by Dominik Reuter | Oct 23, 2026

TL;DR: IT-Recht Kanzlei in 30 seconds

  • IT-Recht Kanzlei is a law firm in Munich that sells legal texts for online sellers on a subscription: terms and conditions (AGB), cancellation policy, privacy policy and legal notice (Impressum), all with an update service.
  • Pricing: Starter €9.90, Premium €24.90, Unlimited €54.90 a month, plus VAT. Blogs without a shop can use a privacy package for €5.90.
  • Starter and Premium can be cancelled monthly after the first month, and an email is enough. Only Unlimited ties you in for twelve months.
  • The catch: when the contract ends, your right to use the texts ends too. You need replacements before you cancel.
  • Our rating: 4.4 out of 5. Fair contract terms, many integrations and excellent user reviews. Points off for manual work on Amazon and eBay and for contradictory information on the website.
  • Transparency: we use no referral link from the firm and earn nothing from this review. We were a paying client ourselves until autumn 2026.

Last checked: 23 October 2026. We verified prices and terms on it-recht-kanzlei.de on 19 and 23 October 2026.

If you sell to customers in Germany, your shop needs a legal notice (Impressum), a privacy policy, terms and conditions and a cancellation policy. Mistakes in these texts are a common reason for cease-and-desist letters (Abmahnungen), and the rules change all the time.

IT-Recht Kanzlei handles this for you on a subscription. You answer a questionnaire, get ready-made texts and receive an email whenever the law changes. On many shop systems the texts even update themselves.

We were a client on the Premium plan until autumn 2026. For this review we also read the terms of every plan, analysed 304 Trustpilot reviews and compared the firm with four competitors. Our scoring method is explained on our how we test page.

Our rating: 4.4 / 5

Legal texts written by lawyers, with an update service, more than 40 integrations and contracts you can cancel monthly. Points off because Amazon and eBay texts stay manual, the texts disappear the moment you cancel and the website contradicts itself on several points.

What is IT-Recht Kanzlei?

IT-Recht Kanzlei is a licensed law firm (Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft) based in Munich. It specialises in e-commerce law and sells legal texts as subscriptions it calls “Schutzpakete” (protection packages).

That sets it apart from free generators and from some competitors: your contract partner is a law firm. Lawyers answer your questions about the texts, and the firm is liable for errors in them under the rules of professional liability for lawyers.

Who runs the firm

Item Details
Company IT-Recht Kanzlei GmbH & Co. KG, Munich Local Court HRA 122193
Address Alter Messeplatz 2, 80339 Munich, Germany
Managing director Max-Lion Keller, LL.M. (IT law)
Supervisory body Munich Bar Association (Rechtsanwaltskammer München)
Professional indemnity insurance HDI Versicherung, sum insured not stated
Founded 2004 (according to the firm)
Lawyers 8 listed on the website
Phone hours Mon–Fri 10 am–12 pm

The legal form is new: according to commercial register data, the limited partnership was only registered in January 2026, and older terms still name the predecessor firm. The firm says it protects more than 110,000 businesses, while another page on its site says 80,000.

How to read the awards

The website shows three awards. They carry different weight:

Award Awarded by How it works
TOP business law firm 2024 (IT & telecoms) FOCUS Spezial survey of lawyers and in-house counsel by the research institute FactField
TOP law firm 2019 (IT law) WirtschaftsWoche survey by the Handelsblatt Research Institute
Business Innovator 2026 German Innovation Institute (diind) self-assessment by the company, seal licensed for a fee, information not verified according to diind

The two rankings are based on recommendations from within the legal industry. The third seal tells you little because it relies on what the company says about itself.

What “Fairness im Handel” means

Many German shops display the logo of the “Fairness im Handel” (fairness in trade) initiative. It is run by IT-Recht Kanzlei itself, and only its clients can join. Membership is free and activated in the client portal.

Members commit to one rule: before sending another member a formal warning, they point out the mistake for free and allow seven days to fix it. It offers no protection against competitors outside the initiative or against trade associations.

We still found the logo useful as a trust signal, because it shows customers that a law firm looks after the shop. Once the contract ends, the logo has to come off your site.

How much does IT-Recht Kanzlei cost?

There are four packages. All prices exclude VAT, and there is no setup fee.

Package net per month incl. 19% VAT Web presences Minimum term
Datenschutz (privacy) €5.90 €7.02 1, no shop 1 month
Starter €9.90 €11.78 1 1 month
Premium €24.90 €29.63 up to 5 1 month
Unlimited €54.90 €65.33 up to 70 12 months

A web presence is, for example, your Shopify store, your eBay account or your Instagram page. With Premium and Unlimited, all presences must share the same legal notice, which means they must belong to one operator.

Single-platform offers

If you only sell on one platform, you can book a single offer instead of a package. The order pages list legal texts, update service, liability and a one-month minimum term. They do not say whether extras such as the cookie tool are included.

Platform net per month
Etsy €5.90
Kaufland €5.90
Amazon €9.90
eBay €9.90
Shopify €9.90

Foreign languages and selling abroad

The firm offers texts for 21 countries. On Starter, a foreign-language version replaces the German one rather than coming on top. On Premium, every language version counts as one of the five presences.

An English version of the German texts for your own shop is listed as part of Unlimited. The contract itself is in German, and German law applies, with Munich as the place of jurisdiction for business clients.

Discount for a longer commitment

With the loyalty discount (“Treuerabatt”) you commit to twelve months and the last two are free. On Unlimited this applies to 24 months. For Starter, the yearly price drops from €118.80 to €99 net.

In short: For a single shop, Starter at €9.90 net is enough. As soon as you also sell on eBay, Amazon or Etsy, you end up on Premium at €24.90. That is what we did.

What the subscription includes

Legal texts and update service

Depending on the package, you get terms and conditions with customer information, a cancellation policy with a withdrawal form, a privacy policy under the GDPR and a legal notice. You create them in the client portal through a questionnaire: what you sell, to whom, where and with which payment methods.

When the law changes, the firm emails you. According to its terms you must then apply updates without delay and must not edit the texts yourself. Besides your own shop, the firm covers many marketplaces, including Otto, Kaufland and TikTok Shop.

Integrations: automatic or manual

The firm advertises more than 40 integrations. They push the texts straight into your shop and replace them when something changes. According to the firm, software checks several times a day whether they are up to date.

System Integration Notes
Shopify yes, app 4.9 stars from 20 reviews; listed at $9.90 in the App Store, free for clients according to the firm
WooCommerce and WordPress yes, plugin more than 10,000 active installations
Shopware 5, 6 and Cloud yes, plugin 5.0 stars from 17 reviews
JTL-Shop 4 and 5 yes, plugin in the JTL Extension Store
Gambio yes including Gambio Cloud
Etsy yes developed together with Etsy
Amazon and eBay no copy the texts and every update by hand
Kaufland, Otto, TikTok Shop not listed texts available, no integration mentioned

Check a running integration from time to time. In 2026, a post in the German Etsy community described a connection that had silently stopped working in 2023. The cause was a changed email address in the Etsy account.

If you run a Shopify store, the video below by the German channel next level e-com (February 2024) shows the setup. The video is in German, and the channel links to the firm with a referral link in the description.

More Information

Extras in the packages

Besides the texts, the packages include several tools:

  • an AI website scan that detects embedded services and cookies and adjusts the privacy policy; it can run automatically
  • a cookie consent tool for up to 20,000 page views a month, plus eight cookie tool providers in the firm’s partner network, some with client discounts
  • the review system ShopVote, whose premium features clients can use for free according to the firm (from Starter)
  • more than 70 templates and over 130 guides (the firm’s figures), for example on the German Battery Act, accessibility, or shipping and payment pages
  • an accessibility check, a deadline calculator and the “Abmahnradar” app

Our experience as a client

We were on the Premium plan for just under €30 a month including VAT, which covered up to five presences, one of them on eBay. We cannot show screenshots of the portal because access ends when you cancel.

What we liked

  • The texts were easy to configure in the portal, and the questionnaire was clear.
  • We could let the website scanner run automatically instead of updating the privacy policy by hand after every change.
  • The free ShopVote account helps a new shop collect reviews from day one.
  • The “Fairness im Handel” logo worked as a trust signal.
  • Ready-made templates and guides covered special cases such as the Battery Act or shipping and payment pages.

What bothered us

eBay meant manual work. We had to request the eBay privacy policy by email instead of generating it in the portal. It worked, but it was cumbersome.

Why we cancelled

We were not unhappy with the service. We now also handle client projects, and the firm’s packages only cover presences of one operator with the same legal notice. For many projects belonging to different clients, we needed an agency plan.

Liability and help with legal warnings

The key question with legal texts is what happens if you receive a cease-and-desist letter anyway. The answer depends on who made the mistake.

Situation Starter and Premium Unlimited
Warning caused by an error in the firm’s texts advice, representation and coverage of justified costs (according to the website) same as Starter, and stated explicitly in the terms
Warning for another reason, such as product photos, trademarks or advertising claims free initial assessment competition law advice on the protected presence and a shop review by a specialist lawyer

What the terms say

The small print has one difference. The terms for Starter and Premium only say the firm is liable “in accordance with the statutory provisions”, which means normal professional liability. An explicit indemnity against warning costs appears only in the Unlimited terms.

Real cases

How well this works in practice is hard to verify. We found three reports in which the firm advised or represented clients who had received warnings, all positive. Nobody mentions costs, and we found no case of a warning despite using the firm’s texts.

In short: The firm stands behind errors in its own texts. For everything else in your shop, such as someone else’s product photos or misleading claims, the smaller packages only give you an initial assessment.

How to cancel IT-Recht Kanzlei

Cancelling is easier than with many competitors. You can cancel Starter, Premium and the privacy package at the end of any month after the first one, with no notice period. There is no automatic renewal for another year.

Exceptions: Unlimited has a twelve-month minimum term. If you used the loyalty discount or the switching bonus, you are also tied in for twelve or 24 months.

After cancelling, the texts must go

Under clause 8.5 of the terms, your right to use the texts ends with the contract. You must remove them without being asked, along with the terms logo and the “Fairness im Handel” logo; otherwise, according to the firm, you infringe its copyright. Set up replacements before the contract ends.

Step by step

  1. Prepare new legal texts, from another provider or a generator.
  2. Send an email to info@it-recht-kanzlei.de. The terms require written or text form, so an email is enough.
  3. Include your client number, package and preferred end date, and ask for written confirmation.
  4. Download your invoices from the client portal, because access ends with the cancellation.
  5. When the contract ends, replace all texts, remove the logos and disconnect integrations and plugins.

According to the firm, only additional contracts can be cancelled with one click in the portal, not the last one. For that, the firm asks for a written message or a call. Use email so you have proof.

Cancellation email template

The firm works in German, so here is a short German template. The English translation follows below it.

German template to copy:

Betreff: Kündigung meines Schutzpakets, Kundennummer [Nummer]

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
hiermit kündige ich mein Schutzpaket [Paketname] zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt. Bitte bestätigen Sie mir die Kündigung und das Vertragsende schriftlich.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
[Name, Firma, Anschrift]

Translation: “Subject: Cancellation of my protection package, client number […]. Dear Sir or Madam, I hereby cancel my protection package […] at the earliest possible date. Please confirm the cancellation and the end date in writing. Kind regards, […]”

How our cancellation went

We cancelled our Premium plan by email. The confirmation arrived the next day.

Other clients report similar experiences. On Trustpilot and in the German Sellerforum we found several positive reports about cancelling and no complaints about charges after cancellation or unwanted renewals.

What other users say

Platform Rating Reviews
Trustpilot 4.9 315
Google 5.0 455
Shopify App Store (app) 4.9 20
Shopware Store (3 plugins) 5.0 17
WordPress.org (plugin) 4.3 6

As of 19 October 2026. On Trustpilot, 304 of the 315 reviews were readable.

What users praise

The five-star reviews on Trustpilot mostly mention fast replies (in about 39% of the texts) and expert advice (about 32%). Many say they have been clients for years.

One post in the German Sellerforum joked that it took a “scandalous four minutes” to get an email reply.

What users criticise

Real criticism is rare. Of 304 readable Trustpilot reviews, only two have fewer than three stars. The critical voices across platforms focus on these points:

  • the price, for example “I find the costs far too high” (Sellerforum, December 2024)
  • missing texts for some platforms and languages
  • a cluttered portal and problems pasting the texts
  • integration details, such as the phone number being mandatory in the Shopify legal notice
  • the rule that the texts can only be used while the contract runs

How reliable are the reviews?

Almost half of the Trustpilot reviews (141 of 304) came in five short waves, four of them in December. The firm probably asked existing clients for reviews, but we could not prove it. Without the waves, the average only drops from 4.95 to 4.91.

The firm almost never replies publicly. It does contact critics privately, and in at least two cases customers raised their rating afterwards, once from one star to four. Visible criticism is therefore likely under-represented.

IT-Recht Kanzlei compared

We compared the firm with four well-known German providers. Each row shows the cheapest package that suits a small online shop with terms and conditions.

Provider (package) Price per month Minimum term Notice period Contract partner Shopify app
IT-Recht Kanzlei (Starter) €9.90 1 month none, end of month law firm yes
Händlerbund (Basic) €9.90 billed yearly, €12.90 monthly 12 months 3 months, otherwise +1 year law firm company and association yes, 1.6 stars
eRecht24 (Business) €40 billed yearly, €80 monthly 1 or 12 months none, end of term company with partner law firm no
Protected Shops (Standard) €9.90 billed yearly 12 months 3 months before contract year ends company with cooperating law firm yes, since May 2026
Trusted Shops (Legal Essential) €50 12 months 3 months, otherwise +1 year company, texts by FÖHLISCH Rechtsanwälte no

Prices excluding VAT; eRecht24 gives no tax note on its pricing pages. As of 19 October 2026.

On price, IT-Recht Kanzlei is level with Händlerbund and Protected Shops. The difference is the contract term: among the low-cost providers, this is the only one you can leave every month. Read more in our eRecht24 review.

Free alternatives and their limits

There are decent free generators for the legal notice and privacy policy. Terms and conditions are harder, and no free option alerts you to legal changes or pays if you receive a warning.

Offer Free Limits
eRecht24 generators legal notice, privacy policy no terms and conditions, no alerts on legal changes
Datenschutz-Generator (Dr. Schwenke) legal notice, cancellation policy; privacy policy up to €5,000 annual revenue terms and conditions cost €99.90 net
Trusted Shops Rechtstexter terms, privacy policy, legal notice, cancellation policy no liability, no update service
Shopify templates policies in the Shopify admin not legal advice according to Shopify

That can work at the very start if you keep the texts up to date yourself. Once orders come in regularly, a subscription with an update service is the safer choice.

Who is IT-Recht Kanzlei for?

A good fit if you

  • run a shop on Shopify, WooCommerce, Shopware, JTL or Etsy and want the texts to update automatically
  • do not want to commit for a whole year
  • want a law firm as your contract partner
  • sell on several channels under one legal notice; then Premium fits

Less suitable if you

  • mainly sell on Amazon or eBay, because every update stays manual there
  • are an agency that needs legal texts for many clients, because the packages only cover one operator
  • expect help with every kind of legal warning, because that only comes with Unlimited
  • need a contract in English, because the firm’s terms name German as the contract language

Verdict

On contract term and price, IT-Recht Kanzlei is the fairest offer for beginners in our comparison. You get texts from a law firm with an update service for €9.90 net and can cancel every month.

The weak spots are Amazon and eBay, where everything stays manual, and the website, which often contradicts itself on figures and liability. Before you cancel, plan your replacements, because the texts stop being usable straight away.

For beginners with their own shop, Starter is a good first step. If you sell on several channels, choose Premium, as we did.
