TL;DR: Julius AI in 30 seconds
- Julius AI is a chat-based data analysis tool: upload a spreadsheet, ask questions in plain English, get charts, statistics and the Python code behind them. Since 2026 it also builds presentations, websites and runs browser agents.
- Plans: Free, Plus $20, Pro $45 and Business $450 a month (20% less on annual billing). Everything runs on credits that expire at the end of each billing period and can’t be topped up.
- The free plan is a demo rather than a workspace: 25 credits a day, lighter models and files that are deleted after one hour of inactivity.
- The weak spots: Trustpilot sits at 1.7 out of 5, mostly over credits and refused refunds, and Julius may share your prompts and files with AI providers to improve their models unless you opt out by email.
- Our rating: 3.5 out of 5. Strong at turning messy data into charts without code, weak on pricing transparency, refunds and data protection for EU users.
- Transparency: the Julius buttons are affiliate links (marked with *). New users get 50% off the first month through our link or with the code CONVECOM50OFF. We haven’t used Julius in our own business, so this review is based on research.
Last checked: 30 October 2026. We checked plans, credits and terms on julius.ai and in its help centre on that day. Julius has changed its pricing model several times since 2025, so check the pricing page before you sign up.
Most small businesses have more data than time: order exports, ad reports, survey results. Analysing them means pivot tables, formulas or a freelancer. AI data analysis tools promise a shortcut: upload the file, ask a question, get a chart.
Julius AI is one of the best-known names in this category. Google sees about 18,000 searches a month for it in the US alone, and the company says it had over two million users in July 2025 (its own figure).
We haven’t run Julius in our own business. For this review we read the pricing page, the terms, the privacy policy and the help centre, analysed every Trustpilot review, Reddit threads and five independent blog tests, and compared Julius with six alternatives. How we score tools is explained on our how we test page.
Our rating: 3.5 / 5
A quick way to turn spreadsheets into charts and statistics without writing code, with a generous set of file formats and data connectors. Points off for a credit system users find hard to predict, refunds that are only granted case by case, a Trustpilot score of 1.7 and thin data protection documentation for EU users.

What is Julius AI?
Julius AI is a web app that analyses data in a chat. You upload a CSV, Excel or SPSS file, ask a question such as “which product group has the highest return rate?”, and Julius writes and runs Python code, shows the result and draws the chart. If the code fails, it tries to fix it itself.
Since 2026 the company calls Julius an “AI workspace”. Besides data analysis it now builds slide decks, reports, websites, images and videos and can control a browser to research things for you. For this review we focus on the data analysis, because that’s what most people search for.

How much does Julius AI cost?
Julius has four self-serve plans plus Enterprise. The pricing page shows prices in US dollars before tax; taxes are added based on your billing address. Annual billing saves 20%.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | – | 25 a day, plus 75 once | lighter models, limited slides and image tools, files deleted after 1 hour of inactivity |

How the credits work
Julius switched from counting messages to credits on 28 February 2026. According to the credits guide, a simple message costs less than a full analysis with code execution, and heavier models cost more than lighter ones. The exact cost of a request isn’t shown before you send it.
Three rules matter: unused credits expire at the end of your billing period, daily credits expire at midnight UTC, and you can’t buy extra credits. If you run out, the only option is a bigger plan.
That’s where most complaints come from. One Trustpilot reviewer wrote in May 2026 that they “used around 4,500 credits in just 4 days with only 9 queries” on the Pro plan. Julius says fewer than 5% of users exceed their monthly credits, but it can’t be checked from outside.
What the free plan is good for
The free plan gives you 75 welcome credits once and 25 credits a day, which is enough to test a few questions on a small file. It uses Julius’s lighter models, and uploaded and generated files are deleted after one hour of inactivity.
Treat it as a demo. If you want to come back to an analysis the next day, you need a paid plan, where files stay for seven days of inactivity.
50% off the first month
Julius runs its partner programme through Dub, and the programme page states that new users get 50% off their first month. The discount is applied through our link*; as a fallback, the code CONVECOM50OFF should work at checkout. We couldn’t test the code ourselves, so check the total before you pay.
There is no student discount anymore. The help centre says Julius “does not offer new student or academic discounts”; older blog posts claiming 50% for students are out of date.
Cancelling and refunds
- Download anything you want to keep. Files on paid plans are deleted after seven days of inactivity anyway.
- Open Settings, then Subscription, then “Invoices and Payment Methods”. This opens the Stripe billing portal.
- Click “Cancel plan”. Access runs until the end of the current billing period, then the plan ends.
- If you subscribed in the iOS app, cancel through Apple instead.
- To delete your account and data, use the delete option in the settings or email team@julius.ai. Julius says it deletes data within seven business days.
Refunds are not guaranteed
Julius’s help centre says that refunds “are reviewed on a case-by-case basis”, that cancelling “does not automatically refund an earlier charge” and that credits are non-refundable. Subscriptions renew automatically, so set a reminder before the renewal date, especially on the annual plan.
In short: Plus at $16 a month on annual billing is fair if you analyse data every week. Pro only makes sense if you hit the credit limit. Avoid annual billing until you know your monthly credit use, because there’s no guaranteed refund.
What Julius AI can do
Data files and connectors
According to the help centre, Julius reads CSV, Excel with several tabs, JSON, Parquet, Feather, SQLite and SPSS files, plus PDFs, images, text files, Python and R scripts and SQL files. Google Sheets work through a share link.
Julius sets no file size limit of its own; the practical limit is the sandbox memory of 16 or 32 GB. Exports from scraping tools such as Apify go in as CSV files.
On the Business plan you can connect databases directly: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, BigQuery and Supabase. There are also connectors for Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Drive, OneDrive and SharePoint.
Charts and statistics
Charts are built with Python libraries such as matplotlib, seaborn, plotly and Bokeh. That gives you the usual bar, line and scatter plots, but also box plots, heat maps, candlesticks and interactive charts. You can ask for a specific style and download the result.
For statistics, Julius runs tests like t-tests, ANOVA, regressions and correlations and explains the result. Because the code is visible, you can check what it did. You should check it: several users report calculations that were wrong or based on made-up data when the input was sparse or ambiguous.
Presentations, websites and agents
The newer parts of Julius turn an analysis into a slide deck (PowerPoint, PDF, HTML or Google Slides), a report or a small website on a Julius subdomain. Image and video generation are included too. A browser agent can open websites and collect data, and Pro and Business plans can schedule analyses to run automatically.
Two things were removed in 2026: custom agents (replaced by custom instructions) and notebooks. Several long-time users complain that features moved into higher plans, for example the agent, which some say now needs a Business account.
Languages and apps
The interface, the help centre and the support are English only. You can ask Julius to reply in German through custom instructions, and it handles German column names in a spreadsheet, but we couldn’t test how reliable that is.
The iOS app, “Julius AI: Data & Math Helper”, hasn’t been updated since May 2025 and still lists the old plan names. The Android app is currently not available in Google Play, according to the help centre. In practice, Julius is a desktop tool.
Video: a marketing analysis in Julius
Julius’s own video from November 2025 shows a typical use case for online sellers: analysing Google Ads campaign data step by step in the real interface.
What’s missing
- a developer API: Julius can call other services’ APIs, but there’s no documented API to call Julius
- an Excel add-in or Google Sheets add-on; “AI for Excel” is a web feature
- a way to see what a request will cost in credits before you send it
- a working Android app and a current iOS app
- EU hosting or a public data processing agreement (more below)
Is Julius AI safe? Data protection for EU users
Whenever you upload customer or sales data to a US service, you’re responsible for the legal basis. Julius is based in the United States and stores data there, so EU businesses need to look at the details.
What the documents say
| Point | What we found |
|---|---|
| Hosting | United States; cloud provider and region not published |
| EU-US Data Privacy Framework | not listed (neither Julius AI nor Caesar Labs) |
| Standard contractual clauses | not mentioned in the terms or privacy policy |
| Data processing agreement | only “if you and Julius AI enter into” one; no public template |
| Subprocessors | Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and Stripe are named; the full list sits in a trust centre we couldn’t read |
| Certifications | SOC 2 Type 2 and TX-RAMP Level 2, according to the help centre as of 8 October 2026; the report isn’t public |
| Account security | two-factor login from Plus, enforceable for teams |
| Deleting data | self-serve account deletion; deletion requests handled within seven business days |

Your data may be used to improve AI models
Julius doesn’t train its own models, but its help centre states that the terms “permit Julius to share user content, including prompts, uploaded files and outputs, with AI technology providers to help evaluate, improve and develop their models”. To opt out, email privacy@julius.ai before you upload anything sensitive.
What this means for EU businesses
For comparison, EU-hosted tools such as Langdock store data in Germany and contractually exclude training. If your data contains customer names, addresses or order histories, that’s the safer route, and anonymising the file before upload is a good habit with any tool.
In short: Julius is fine for aggregated or anonymised data such as ad reports, product performance or survey results without names. For raw customer data, EU businesses need the opt-out email, a signed data processing agreement and their own transfer assessment, and even then an EU-hosted tool is easier to defend.
Julius AI reviews: what users say
| Platform | Rating | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 1.7 / 5 | 22 reviews, 19 of them from 2026, profile unclaimed |
| Apple App Store (US) | 4.8 / 5 | 398 ratings, app last updated May 2025 |
| G2 | 4.5 / 5 | 4 reviews, which G2 calls “not enough” |
As of 30 October 2026. Be careful with aggregator sites: the G2 and Capterra listings with about 100 reviews at 4.5 belong to Julius Works, an influencer marketing tool, not to julius.ai.
What users like
The praise comes mostly from beginners, students and researchers rather than data professionals. The most common point is that Julius writes the code and fixes it when it fails: “It shows the python step by step, corrects itself” (Reddit, August 2025).
Users also like the charts, the quick onboarding and the data cleaning. A PhD student wrote on Reddit in August 2025 that Julius is “very good at doing high level analysis” of large datasets. One blog test from February 2026 found that the self-repair worked in about 80% of cases.
What users criticise
Trustpilot tells a different story, and it’s recent: 18 of the 19 reviews from 2026 give one or two stars. Of the 21 negative reviews, 13 are about billing and refunds and 13 about credits, often both.
- automatic renewals without a refund, even when the request came minutes after the charge
- credits that ran out after a handful of questions, or that weren’t reset on the renewal date
- purchased credits that disappeared after the subscription wasn’t renewed
- analyses with errors, or data that Julius “create[d] out of nowhere” (January 2026)
- support that replies with AI-generated emails or not at all
The Trustpilot profile is unclaimed, and Julius hasn’t answered a single review. There’s no sign of invited or incentivised reviews, so the 1.7 is organic, but it’s also a small sample of people who lost money.
How to read the numbers
Until early 2026, criticism was mostly about accuracy. Since the switch to credits, it’s about money: long-time users who “used to love this platform” cancelled over expiring credits and refused refunds. The product itself, charts, code and onboarding, is still praised in 2026.
On Reddit, the r/datascience community is sceptical: the top comment in a 2025 thread says the tool tries “to solve an advanced problem without addressing intermediate steps first”. Data analysts see Julius as a quick-chart tool, not a replacement for their work.

Prices from the vendors’ pricing pages, checked on 30 October 2026, before tax.
Julius AI vs ChatGPT
Both run Python in a sandbox to analyse your file, so the basic trick is the same. Julius adds a workspace built around data: a file manager, a data explorer, more file formats such as SPSS and Parquet, database connectors and a choice of models from OpenAI and Anthropic in one chat.
ChatGPT Plus is the better deal for occasional analysis. For the same $20 you get data analysis, interactive charts, Excel and Sheets extensions, deep research and image generation without a credit counter. Its free plan is limited, but it doesn’t delete your files after an hour.
Julius AI vs Claude
Claude is the most generous of the three: code execution is included in the free plan, uploads go up to 500 MB per file, and results can be exported as Excel or PowerPoint files. Pro costs $17 a month on annual billing, and usage is measured in five-hour windows rather than monthly credits.
What Claude lacks is the data-specific tooling: no database connectors, no SPSS or Parquet, no scheduled analyses. Anthropic also stores data in the US, but as a model provider it doesn’t pass your data on to third parties the way Julius does.
Alternatives for EU businesses
If your data includes customer details, look at Langdock: an EU-hosted ChatGPT alternative for teams with a built-in Python interpreter for CSV and Excel files, from €20 per user a month on annual billing. Rows from Berlin is a cheaper spreadsheet-first option, but its free plan allows only five AI tasks a month.
For shop data specifically, a dedicated analytics tool can beat a general chat: Klar pulls orders, ad spend and margins from Shopify and your ad accounts directly, hosted in Germany, without CSV exports.
Who should use Julius AI?
Julius AI is a good fit if you …
- analyse exports from your shop, ad accounts or surveys regularly and don’t write code
- want charts and statistical tests explained in plain language, with the code visible
- work with formats ChatGPT doesn’t take, such as SPSS, Parquet or SQLite
- need a slide deck or report from the analysis in the same tool
Look elsewhere if you …
- only analyse a file now and then, where ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro cost the same without credits
- upload customer data from the EU and need a data processing agreement and EU hosting
- want predictable costs: credit use per request isn’t shown in advance and refunds aren’t guaranteed
- are a data analyst who needs reproducible pipelines rather than ad-hoc charts
Verdict: is Julius AI worth it?
Julius does what it promises for non-coders: drop in a spreadsheet and get usable charts, tests and summaries within minutes, with the code to check. The file formats, connectors and the slide export go beyond what ChatGPT or Claude offer, and the Plus plan is affordable on annual billing.
The business side is where it loses points. Credits expire, can’t be topped up and their cost isn’t visible before you send a request. Refunds are discretionary, and Trustpilot reflects that.
Add the data protection setup, which requires EU users to opt out of model improvement by email, and you get 3.5 out of 5.
Our advice: test the free plan on a real export, then take the monthly Plus plan with the 50% first-month discount and watch your credit use for a month before committing to a year. Send the opt-out email on day one, and keep personal data out of your uploads.

Frequently asked questions about Julius AI
Is Julius AI free?
There is a free plan with 25 credits a day plus 75 welcome credits, lighter AI models and files that are deleted after one hour of inactivity. It’s enough to test the tool on a small file. Regular use needs Plus at $20 a month or $16 on annual billing (as of 30 October 2026).
How much does Julius AI cost?
Plus costs $20 a month (2,000 credits), Pro $45 (5,000 credits) and Business $450 (60,000 credits, up to 50 team members). Annual billing is 20% cheaper. Prices are in US dollars before tax, and credits expire at the end of each billing period.
Is there a Julius AI promo code?
Yes. Through Julius’s partner programme, new users get 50% off their first month. The discount is applied when you sign up through our affiliate link, and the code CONVECOM50OFF should also work at checkout (as of October 2026); check the total before you pay, because refunds are only granted case by case.
Is Julius AI safe to use with company data?
Julius stores data in the US, isn’t listed under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and has no public data processing agreement. Its terms allow sharing prompts, files and outputs with AI providers to improve their models unless you opt out by email to privacy@julius.ai. Use anonymised or aggregated data, and send the opt-out email before uploading anything sensitive.
Julius AI or ChatGPT: which is better for data analysis?
Both run Python in a sandbox. Julius adds a data workspace, more file formats such as SPSS and Parquet, database connectors and slide exports. ChatGPT Plus costs the same $20 but has no credit counter and includes many other features, which makes it the better deal for occasional analysis.
Does Julius AI work in German?
Partly. The interface, help centre and support are English only. You can set the reply language to German in the custom instructions, and German column names in a spreadsheet are handled, but we couldn’t test how reliable the German output is.
How do I cancel Julius AI and get a refund?
Cancel under Settings, Subscription, “Invoices and Payment Methods”, then “Cancel plan”. Access runs until the end of the billing period. Refunds are not automatic: Julius reviews them case by case, and credits are non-refundable, so cancel before the renewal date.
Which file types does Julius AI support?
CSV, Excel (including several tabs), JSON, Parquet, Feather, SQLite and SPSS for data; PDF, text and images; Python, R and SQL files; and Google Sheets via a share link. On the Business plan you can also connect PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, BigQuery and Supabase.
What are Julius AI credits?
Since February 2026, every request costs credits depending on its complexity and the model used. Plus includes 2,000 credits a month, Pro 5,000 and Business 60,000, plus 100 daily credits on all paid plans. Unused credits expire at the end of the billing period, and you can’t buy extra credits, only upgrade.
