TL;DR: Sandcastles AI in 30 seconds
- Sandcastles AI is a research and scriptwriting tool for short-form video, not an editor. It finds outlier videos on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, pulls transcripts, explains why a clip worked and writes hooks and scripts from those patterns. Filming, voiceover and editing stay with you.
- Pricing is credit-based: Pro $39 a month billed yearly or $49 billed monthly for 100 credits, Visionary $79 or $99 for 250 credits, Titan $399 or $499 for 1,500 credits and API access. One credit buys one video analysis or one script.
- There is no free trial any more. New accounts can start on a $5 Starter plan with 10 credits that refunds itself when you cancel. Paid plans are non-refundable, and unused credits expire every month, also on annual billing.
- The MCP connector (Pro and up) puts your watchlist inside Claude, ChatGPT and a dozen other assistants. Collections, Personal Analytics, Reports and a Hook Genius report all arrived in 2026.
- Independent reviews are thin: no G2, Capterra or Trustpilot listing exists, and the “4.92 out of 5” on the homepage names no source. Praise and criticism come from written reviews and YouTube tests, several by competitors.
- Our rating: 3.7 out of 5. Strong research engine and a fair credit model, points off for the price per action on the entry plan, the no-refund policy and the lack of verifiable user feedback. Try Sandcastles AI for $5*
Most short-form creators lose their time before the camera is even on. Scrolling through competitors, saving clips to a notes app, guessing which hook made a video travel. The research phase is where consistency dies, and it is the one part of the job that nobody shows on camera.
Sandcastles AI is built for exactly that phase. It watches the channels you choose, surfaces the videos that beat their creator’s usual numbers, hands you the transcript and a breakdown, and then writes hooks and scripts from the patterns it found. It turns competitor research from a habit into a feed.
We first used Sandcastles AI for this review in March 2026. On October 11, 2026 we re-checked every plan, limit, credit rule and feature against the live app pages and the help center, because a lot has changed since: the free trial is gone, the credit system is new, and the price you see advertised is the annual one. Here is what that means for you.
Our rating: 3.7 / 5
The most complete research-to-script workflow we have seen for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, with outlier detection that measures against each creator’s own baseline instead of raw views. Points off because 100 credits on the entry plan run out after roughly three actions a day, because paid plans cannot be refunded, and because the user numbers and the 4.92 rating on the homepage cannot be checked anywhere.

What is Sandcastles AI?
Sandcastles AI is a web app that researches short-form video and writes scripts from what it finds. You build watchlists of channels on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and the tool keeps a feed of their outliers: videos that performed far above the creator’s own average. For every video you get a transcript, an analysis of hook, structure and style, and the option to turn it into a hook list or a full script in your voice. Long-form YouTube videos are never imported, the help center is explicit about that.
Behind the product is Digital Supply Co, LLC, doing business as Sandcastles, registered in Sacramento, California. The founder is Kane Kallaway, a creator with more than half a million followers who signs every product post on the company blog. The terms of service date from December 2024, the first product post from April 2025, so the tool is young, and it ships new features at a fast pace.
What it does not do matters just as much: Sandcastles AI does not film, edit, voice or render anything. For an AI video suite that produces the actual clips, see our Higgsfield review; for cutting long videos into clips, Klap covers that job.

What Sandcastles AI does
Channel research. You add creators in your niche to a watchlist. Sandcastles then builds a feed of their best-performing videos and lets you filter by outlier score, views, engagement and date. The outlier score compares a video with its own creator’s baseline, which is the detail reviewers praise most: a clip with 200,000 views from a channel that usually gets 10,000 is more interesting than a celebrity video with a million. The company claims a database of millions of validated outliers.
Analysis and transcripts. Every analyzed video comes with a transcript and a breakdown of hook, storytelling structure, format and style. In practice this is the part that saves the most time, because you stop re-watching clips to figure out why they worked.
Hooks and scripts. The scriptwriter offers three paths: remix an outlier, write from scratch, or fix a script you already have. Hooks are generated from templates that performed, not from a blank prompt. A Persona tab on Pro and above stores your niche, brand and writing style so the output sounds like you. Editing an existing script, including translating or changing its length, costs no credits.
Collections. Since June 2026 there are 105 curated collections of formats, editing styles, visual hooks and signature series, all pre-analyzed and free to browse on every plan. They are reference material for your next video, not a template library that renders anything.
Personal Analytics and Reports. Verify your own channels and the dashboard shows followers, views, posts and performance charts. Reports, added in August 2026, generate written analyses such as a Content Strategy Audit; the Hook Genius report from September 2026 lists the three to five hook strategies a channel relies on. Reports cost a base amount of credits plus one credit per newly analyzed video.
MCP and API. Pro, Visionary and Titan include an MCP connector. Once set up, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor and a dozen other assistants can search your watchlist, pull channel recaps and ask for analyses directly in chat. Searching and recaps through MCP are free, an analysis costs the usual credit. A REST API exists but only on Titan.

Credits and the real cost per action
Credits are the currency for three things: analyzing a video, writing a script and running a report. One analysis or one script costs one credit. Adding channels, browsing collections, editing scripts and MCP searches are free. Credits are granted at the start of each monthly period and expire at its end, on annual plans too. Extra credits come as “credit boosts” that never expire, but their prices are only visible inside the app, which we cannot confirm here.
| Plan | Monthly price (yearly billing) | Credits | Cost per credit | Actions per day (30 days) | Complete ideas per month* |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $39 | 100 | $0.39 | about 3.3 | about 25 |
| Visionary | $79 | 250 | $0.32 | about 8.3 | about 62 |
| Titan | $399 | 1,500 | $0.27 | 50 | about 375 |
*Our editorial estimate: one “complete idea” = analyzing three outliers plus writing one script, four credits. With monthly billing the cost per credit is $0.49, $0.40 and $0.33.
Read the Pro row as what it is: roughly three actions a day. If you post five times a week and analyze two or three references per post, 100 credits are tight by the third week. Visionary is the plan the company labels “Popular”, and after the math above we understand why.
What changed in 2026
- October 2025: version 3.2 introduced the Vault, a new scriptwriter and the credit system that replaced separate analysis and script quotas.
- Spring 2026: the MCP connector for Claude arrived; by August it worked in ChatGPT and Codex as well.
- June 2026: Collections launched, 105 of them, free on every plan.
- July 2026: the Analytics Dashboard for your own channels became public.
- August and September 2026: Reports with the Content Strategy Audit, then the Hook Genius report.
- Between May and August 2026: the 7-day free trial we described in the first version of this review disappeared. New accounts now get the $5 Starter plan instead. Watchlist limits grew from 50 channels on Pro to 150 per workspace.
How we evaluated Sandcastles AI
Three kinds of sources went into this review, and we keep them apart. Our own use of the app for the first version in March 2026 covers the research feed, transcripts and the scriptwriter. Vendor information, meaning the homepage, the help center articles updated between October 2 and 9, 2026, the terms of service and the company blog, covers plans, credits, limits and the feature timeline. Independent sources are written reviews and YouTube tests from 2026; several of the written ones come from competing products and we say so where we quote them. We did not find a single review platform listing, so there is no Trustpilot or G2 score to report. Last checked: October 11, 2026.
Pricing, refunds and the fine print
The advertised price is the annual one. “$39 a month” on Pro means $468 billed at once. Month to month it is $49. The same applies to Visionary ($948 a year) and Titan ($4,788 a year).
No refunds on paid plans. The terms of service say all sales are final, and the help center repeats it: cancelling stops future charges, access continues until the paid period ends. Credit boosts are not refunded either. The single exception is the $5 Starter plan, which automatically refunds the latest $5 payment when you cancel. Starter is only available to accounts that never had a subscription, and you cannot restart it later.
Credits expire monthly. Unused plan credits do not roll over, have no cash value and are not transferable, on annual billing as well. Failed analyses usually return their credit automatically.
Smaller things from the FAQ: you can upgrade or downgrade any time, you cannot pause a subscription, two-factor authentication is not offered (passkeys are), and changing the account e-mail address is not possible yet.
What users say about Sandcastles AI
Here we have to be careful. The homepage shows a “4.92 / 5 rating” and “Trusted by 100k+ users”, but neither names a platform, and we could not find Sandcastles AI on G2, Capterra, Trustpilot or Product Hunt. The 30,000 users we quoted in March 2026 came from the same source, the company itself. Treat all of these as marketing numbers.
What exists are written reviews and YouTube tests. The most useful independent write-up, from creatoreconomytools.com, rates the tool 4.3 out of 5 and calls it a “strong buy for working short-form creators, easy skip for casual posters”. Praise clusters around three points: outlier detection that works against each channel’s baseline, one feed for TikTok, Reels and Shorts instead of three tabs and a spreadsheet, and hooks built from formats that already performed. Agencies like that workspaces keep client research separate.
The criticism is consistent too. “100 credits on the entry plan is roughly 3 actions a day, which runs out faster than people expect,” writes creatoreconomytools. A competitor-written review from CreatorHouse puts it differently: for a solo creator posting five times a week the credits are not the constraint, “the $468 a year is.” Reviewers also note that the tool is pre-production only, that the advertised price is annual, and that the Starter plan leaves out Persona, MCP and bulk analysis. One YouTube test from February 2026 reported a channel that kept showing zero followers after connecting; that predates the dashboard launch in July, but it is the kind of issue a young product still has.
A warning about third-party listings: some tool directories show credit allowances of 500, 1,500 and 10,000 for the three plans. The official help center says 100, 250 and 1,500. Do not buy on directory numbers.
Sandcastles AI alternatives
Prices and features in this table were read from each vendor’s own pricing page on October 11, 2026, except where noted. The tools overlap only partly, so the “reason to choose it” column matters more than the price.
| Tool | Best for | Relationship to Sandcastles | Pricing model | Reason to choose it instead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sandcastles AI | Short-form research and scripts | this review | $5 Starter, Pro from $39/month yearly, credits | Outlier feed across three platforms, MCP |
| Poppy AI | Creative workspace for scripts, ads, images | whiteboard with several AI models, no outlier database | $33/month billed yearly ($399), 2,000 credits; $1 for the first 7 days; 30-day money-back | You want refunds and a broader creative canvas |
| Blort AI | Competitor teardowns on a whiteboard | imports from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, Loom, Drive; no outlier feed | Basic $25, Pro $33 per month billed yearly; 7-day trial; no refunds | Lower price, more platforms, multi-model analysis |
| 1of10 | YouTube long-form research | outliers for YouTube only, plus thumbnails and titles | Free plan with 60 credits; Basic $15/month billed yearly; Pro $69 | Your channel is long-form YouTube, and you want a free tier |
| vidIQ | YouTube SEO and analytics | keyword and channel tool, not a script engine | free tier; paid plans around $19 to $49 per month according to third-party pages (vidiq.com blocked our check) | You optimize YouTube titles and tags rather than short-form hooks |
| Eden | Research plus scheduling | adds X, LinkedIn, Substack; smaller watchlists (5 to 25 creators) | Starter $29, Pro $79 per month (vendor comparison page) | You publish on text platforms too and want scheduling built in |
If your bottleneck is production rather than ideas, none of these is the answer. An AI video suite like Higgsfield or a scheduler like Postiz sits after Sandcastles in the workflow, not instead of it.
Who should and should not buy Sandcastles AI
Buy it if you post short-form video several times a week, research competitors anyway and want that research to come to you. Daily posters and small teams land on Visionary. Agencies with several clients get workspaces, guest access and the API on Titan, and the 20 verified channels there are the only way to run client analytics at scale.
Skip it if you post casually, need an editor or voiceover, or run a long-form YouTube channel; 1of10 fits that better. If you cannot live with a no-refund policy, start on the $5 Starter and decide within the month. And if your brand depends on an unmistakable voice, use the remix feature sparingly: lean on it too hard and your channel ends up sounding like everyone else’s, a point several reviewers make.
Our verdict
Sandcastles AI does the unglamorous part of short-form content well. The outlier feed is genuinely useful, the transcripts and breakdowns save real hours, and the MCP connector makes the research available wherever you already write. At 3.7 out of 5 it is a recommendation with conditions: calculate with the monthly price if you will not commit for a year, expect to outgrow 100 credits quickly, and do not count on getting money back once you are on a paid plan. Test it for $5 first, that path exists for a reason.
Try Sandcastles AI yourself
Start on the $5 Starter plan, add ten channels from your niche and spend the ten credits on the outliers that surprise you. If the feed changes what you post next week, upgrade. If not, cancel and the $5 comes back.
