TL;DR: Metricool in 30 seconds
- Metricool is a social media scheduling and analytics tool from Madrid: calendar, analytics, inbox, link-in-bio and ad management in one interface, available in German, with a free plan that has no time limit.
- The big difference to Buffer and Later: Metricool bills per brand, not per channel. A store running Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube counts as a single brand.
- Pricing: Free €0, Starter from €16, Advanced from €43 a month on annual billing. Paid monthly it is €20 and €54. The discount for a year’s commitment reaches 24 percent.
- The catches in the free plan: only 20 scheduled posts a month, 30 days of analytics history, no LinkedIn. And X costs €10 extra per connected account on every plan.
- On data protection Metricool beats its US rivals: the privacy policy states explicitly that all data sits on servers inside the EU and no transfer to third countries takes place.
- Our rating: 4.3 out of 5. The best value for stores with several channels, with points off for free-plan limits, the X surcharge and reports of posts failing to publish.
- Try it yourself: start with Metricool for free, no credit card and no time limit.
Anyone building a store rarely runs a single channel these days. Instagram for the product shots, TikTok for the reels, Pinterest for the long tail, plus a Facebook page nobody maintains any more. After two weeks of doing it by hand, the question comes up whether there is a tool for this.
Metricool is the answer that comes up most often in German-speaking markets when the budget is small. The tool from Madrid schedules posts, measures what they achieved, collects comments in one inbox and builds a link-in-bio page on the side. The free plan runs without a time limit, and the first paid tier costs less than a cinema ticket.
We looked at what Metricool really costs in 2026 and where billing per brand beats billing per channel, which networks work on which plan, how solid the analytics are, what users report about reliability and support, and when Buffer, Postiz or a German tool is the better fit.
Our rating: 4.3 / 5
One of the cheapest serious tools for stores running several channels: billing per brand makes five profiles cost the same as one, the free plan never expires, the interface is available in German, and the provider states that data sits exclusively on servers inside the EU. Points off for the tight free plan, the X surcharge, missing social listening, team work starting only on Advanced, and recurring reports of posts that fail to publish.

What is Metricool?
Metricool is a tool for everything that happens after a post is written: scheduling, publishing, measuring, replying. You create a brand, connect that brand’s profiles and then work in one calendar instead of six apps. Added to that are per-channel analytics, a shared inbox for comments and messages, a link-in-bio page and ad management.
Behind the tool sits Metricool Software SL, based in Madrid. The story begins in 2014 with a blog: Laura Montells was writing about life with her daughter, and because the available analytics tools were built for analysts rather than for people producing content on the side, she built something simpler together with Juan Pablo Tejela. In 2015 that became Metricool, and the first paying customer arrived the same year. The company has been fully remote since 2020 and passed one million customers in 2022.
In the summer of 2024 the European digital group team.blue took a majority stake at a valuation above 100 million euros. Metricool was turning over around 17 million euros a year at the time with roughly 90 employees, and both founders continue to run the business. For users in German-speaking markets that is good news: the company stays in European hands, which also explains why its data protection setup is so clear-cut. By its own account more than three million people use the tool today, and by its own account Metricool is an official partner of Meta, Google, Pinterest, LinkedIn and X.

Which networks Metricool connects
Metricool bundles all profiles of one brand into a single workspace. A brand here is one unit, meaning a company, a client or a location, and it holds all the associated profiles. That is why the tool is so much cheaper than the competition once several channels are involved. It does not apply equally to every network, though:
| Network | Free | Starter / Advanced | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest | yes | yes | the core networks for stores, scheduling and analytics complete |
| YouTube, Threads, Bluesky | yes | yes | connectable on the free plan too; Threads and Bluesky have no inbox |
| Twitch | yes | yes | analytics only, no scheduling |
| Google Business Profile | yes | yes | one location per brand, several branches need several brands |
| no | yes | blocked on the free plan, available from Starter | |
| Twitter / X | no | add-on only | €10 a month per connected account, analytics limited to 30 days |
| Ad accounts (Meta, Google, TikTok) | 1 each | 10 or 50 | analytics and ad creation |
| Web and blog | yes | yes | connects your own website for visitor numbers |
For a German store that means the channels that matter are all covered. Anyone who needs LinkedIn for B2B sales cannot use the free plan, and anyone running X pays extra on every tier.
The plans at a glance
Metricool has four tiers. The price depends on how many brands you manage, not on how many channels sit inside a brand. These are the plans in September 2026:
| Plan | From (yearly / monthly) | Brands | What you get | What is missing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | 1 | calendar, analytics, 5 competitors, AI assistant with 5 credits, link-in-bio, connector for AI assistants | only 20 posts a month (since January 2026, previously 50), 30 days of analytics, no LinkedIn, no X |
| Starter | €16 / €20 | up to 10 | unlimited scheduling, unlimited analytics history, LinkedIn, 100 competitors, PDF and slide reports, several link-in-bio pages, 20 AI credits | no team members, no approval flow, no Looker Studio, no API |
| Advanced | €43 / €54 | up to 50 | team and client management, roles, approval system, custom report templates, Looker Studio, API for Zapier and Make, 35 AI credits | white label on request only |
| Custom | on request | 50 and up | white label, dedicated contact, custom AI quotas, embedding into your own platform | nothing a beginner needs |
These are entry prices. Within Starter and Advanced, Metricool tiers again by number of brands; the full table follows below. The terms grant a 15-day right of withdrawal from the first contract, and payment is by credit or debit card or PayPal.
The most important features
The planner. The core is a calendar where posts move by drag and drop. You write a text, attach images or a video, adjust the wording per network and see a preview close to the real post. The “best times” feature suggests slots when your audience is active, which needs at least 100 followers on Instagram. Bulk upload via CSV works, with Metricool recommending no more than 50 posts per file.
Autolists. This is the feature that saves the most time day to day. You build a list of up to 200 posts, say evergreen product shots or quotes, define sending times, and Metricool works through the list. With the repeat setting it starts over afterwards. Two limitations: from an autolist you cannot tag people or products on Instagram, and each post takes a maximum of ten attachments.
Analytics. Every channel reports reach, interactions, follower growth and the performance of individual posts. On the free plan the data goes back 30 days and carries a watermark; from Starter the history is unlimited. X is the exception, where Metricool always keeps only 30 days. Important at the start: on first connection Metricool pulls 30 days retroactively, older data is gone, and follower counts and Instagram stories can never be reconstructed later.
Competitor analysis. You add other profiles and see how often they post, what lands and how their reach grows. On the free plan five competitors are fixed and cannot be swapped; from Starter it is up to 100. Only public, organic data is evaluated.
Inbox and reports. Comments and direct messages from Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and the Google Business Profile land in one inbox. Threads, Bluesky and Pinterest are missing there. Reports come as PDF or slides from Starter; custom templates and the Looker Studio connector only from Advanced.
Artificial intelligence. A text assistant writes posts and variations, joined by an alt-text generator for images and brand-specific instructions so the tone fits. It is paid in credits: five on the free plan, 20 on Starter, 35 on Advanced, each per brand and month. Since May 2026 there is also Metricool Studio, which builds reports from a prompt, though only for the first 15 days. Handy for anyone working with AI assistants: Metricool offers a connector for Claude and ChatGPT on all plans, while the classic API with Zapier and Make only unlocks from Advanced.
Ads. Metricool analyses accounts from Meta, Google and TikTok. Campaigns can only be created for Meta and Google, and there only with images, no video. TikTok is analytics-only.
Metricool for online sellers
For a store the value comes down to three questions: can I tag products, can I measure links, and do I reach the channels that drive revenue?
Product tagging works, with one condition. Instagram product tags work in posts and reels, and you pick the items straight from the Meta catalogue. The requirement is that the Instagram account is connected through Facebook and that auto-publishing is on. You get up to 20 tags on a single image, five per carousel image with a maximum of 20 overall, and 30 in a reel. Stories are not supported, and neither are autolists. Anyone connecting Instagram directly instead of through Facebook loses product tags along with full analytics and competitor analysis.
Link measurement works halfway. The editor has a UTM builder that appends source, medium and campaign to any link. You have to evaluate that in Google Analytics, though, as Metricool shows nothing on it. There is also an in-house link shortener and the link-in-bio page, which counts clicks per button and image from Starter.
New and interesting for stores are Flows. Since 1 September 2026, keywords in comments, direct messages or story replies trigger up to three automated messages. That is the mechanism behind “comment LINK below” that many stores use to distribute product pages. So far it covers Instagram and TikTok, with X announced. Metricool offers it free for now and has said it will later become a paid add-on.
What is missing: a real store connection. The Shopify, WooCommerce and Wix entries in the integration list are only a tracking script for website statistics, not a product catalogue sync. There is no revenue attribution per post, no product tagging on Facebook, and posts cannot be edited through Metricool once published.
What Metricool really costs
The €16 in the advertising covers five brands on annual billing. Paid monthly it is €20. This is the full ladder in September 2026, read from the pricing calculator:
| Brands | Plan | Yearly (per month) | Monthly | Saved per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Free | €0 | €0 | – |
| up to 5 | Starter | €16 | €20 | €48 |
| up to 10 | Starter | €29 | €37 | €96 |
| up to 15 | Advanced | €43 | €54 | €132 |
| up to 25 | Advanced | €69 | €87 | €216 |
| up to 50 | Advanced | €130 | €172 | €504 |
A worked example for a store. You run a shop with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. For Metricool that is one brand, so the Starter plan with unlimited posts and full analytics: €16 a month on annual billing, €20 paid monthly. With Buffer you pay per channel, five dollars on annual billing and six monthly, which comes to 25 or 30 dollars for the same setup. Later and Hootsuite land in similar territory.
One catch hides in the fine print, though: there is no tier for a single brand. The smallest paid tier covers five brands, and you pay for it even if you run one shop. At €16 that is still cheap, but the pricing model is clearly built for agencies. And one brand holds exactly one profile per network: running two Instagram accounts means paying for two brands.
The reverse also holds: anyone running a single channel is cheaper off with Buffer, and anyone who gets by on 20 scheduled posts a month pays nothing at Metricool. Billing per brand starts paying off at around three channels.
X costs extra on every plan
Twitter, now X, is included in no plan at Metricool. The add-on costs €10 a month per connected account, even on the €130 Advanced tier. The reason sits with X itself: its API has been paid since 2023 and Metricool passes the cost on. On top of that, X analytics only reach back 30 days, while every other network has unlimited history from Starter. If you run X seriously, budget those €120 a year from the start.
Two more items hide in the fine print. The advanced analytics add-on costs from €30 a month and unlocks unlimited dashboards and report versions; included in the plan are three dashboards plus two views and five versions per report. And the Metricool Studio reporting module is only included for the first 15 days, after which it falls under the same add-on. The hashtag tracker is billed by the day at €25 per day and network, which makes it a campaign tool rather than an everyday one.
How prices have changed
Metricool has rebuilt its tiers twice since 2023, and both times the direction was upward. In autumn 2023 the Pro, Team and Enterprise tiers became today’s Starter, Advanced and Enterprise, together with a steep increase: the smallest tier went from €10 to €14 a month, a 40 percent jump. In 2024 Enterprise became Custom, the 50-brand tier moved into Advanced, and credits for the AI assistant arrived.
Two recent changes are worth knowing. In January 2026 Metricool cut the free plan: from 50 to 20 scheduled posts a month, and from three months to 30 days of analytics history. It was not announced; the official December 2025 product update says nothing about it, while reviews from that month say plenty. If a comparison page still claims 50 posts, it is out of date.
Then in spring 2026 prices rose by roughly 10 to 14 percent: Starter from €14 to €16, Advanced from €39 to €43, the largest tier from €118 to €130. At the same time the X add-on doubled from €5 to €10, and the hashtag tracker has climbed over the years from €9.99 to €25 per day. The free plan survived where other providers dropped theirs, but the trend shows Metricool need not stay the budget option forever.
Feature development has moved quickly of late. 2026 brought scheduling TikTok videos with music, labelling of AI content under the European AI Act, a kanban board for content planning and, in September, automated direct messages. The connector for AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT is included on all plans, the free one included.
Data protection and server location
Here Metricool has an argument its American rivals cannot match. The operator is Metricool Software SL, based in Madrid and registered there. Its German-language privacy policy states literally that the company stores all data on servers within the European Union and that no international data transfers take place during processing. Data processing agreements are in place with the service providers it uses.
For a German store that is the point where Metricool separates itself from Buffer, Later and Hootsuite, whose data runs through US servers under standard contractual clauses and the data privacy framework. That Metricool is a Spanish company with an EU VAT number also simplifies invoicing: with a German VAT ID on file the reverse charge procedure applies, so you get an invoice without VAT and report it yourself. What Metricool does not take off your hands: GDPR duties for your own channels, from the privacy policy to consent, stay with you.
What works well day to day
Setup takes half an hour. Connect accounts, create a brand, queue the first posts. The interface is available in German, the help centre almost entirely so, and the paths are short enough to find your way without a manual.
In daily use the calendar is what sticks. Prepare a week of content, check once, done. Having scheduling and analytics side by side saves switching between two tools, and the per-network preview prevents the classic mistakes, such as a text with line breaks that TikTok will not render.
What is also pleasant is how much the free plan already covers. Calendar, analytics, inbox, competitor tracking and the AI assistant are all there, with no expiry date. For a store publishing two or three posts a week, the 20 posts a month genuinely suffice, and the tool only grows once the business does.
Where the limits are
The free plan is tighter than it looks. Twenty posts a month sounds like enough but runs out after a week of daily posting. Analytics carry a watermark, reach back only 30 days, the five competitors are fixed, LinkedIn is missing entirely, and link-in-bio, PDF reports, hashtag search and the Canva and Google Drive connections are locked.
Teamwork costs the jump to Advanced. Free and Starter have exactly one login. Anyone who wants a second person involved, needs roles, or has to get posts approved before publishing lands at €43 a month. For a one-person store that is no problem; for a small team it is.
There is no social listening. Metricool shows what happens on your own channels and what your competitors post publicly. Anyone who wants to monitor where their brand is mentioned across the web needs another tool. Metricool lists this itself as an API limitation and offers only a hashtag tracker at €25 a day as a substitute, which suits campaigns rather than daily work.
Unlimited comes with an asterisk. The fair use policy sets the threshold at 600 posts per brand per month. Above that Metricool reviews manually, and during that review the policy states that no posting is possible at all. For normal stores that is far away; for agencies with many accounts it is worth a look.
Some posts only work with a detour. Instagram stories with a link, mention or sticker, and reels with audio outside the Metricool library, cannot be published automatically. Metricool then sends a push notification to your phone and you finish by hand. The same applies to TikTok videos with effects or third-party music. On Instagram carousels the API allows only one caption for all images, and TikTok stories cannot be scheduled at all.
What users say about Metricool
The picture splits in two, in a way worth knowing before trusting the stars:
| Platform | Rating | Count | Tenor (09/2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 4.0 / 5 | 662 (167 in 12 months) | 82% five stars, 12% one star, almost no middle ground; Metricool answers every negative review, on average within three days |
| Capterra | 4.4 / 5 | 98 | ease of use 4.5 · features 4.3 · value 4.1 · customer service 4.0 as the weakest score |
| G2 | 4.5 / 5 | around 84 | figure from the search preview, the page itself blocks automated access |
| OMR Reviews (DE) | 4.8 / 5 | 19 | not a single negative review, but most reviewers were invited and received something in return |
| Google Play (app) | 3.5 / 5 | 1,960 | crashes and login problems |
| App Store (app, DE) | 2.8 / 5 | 17 | by far the weakest score in the whole picture |
Two notes upfront. First, Metricool has little presence on German-language review portals: of 662 Trustpilot reviews only eight are in German, and on OMR it has 19 reviews against 442 for Swat.io. Second, the 4.8 on OMR should be read carefully, because most reviewers were invited and compensated. The most reliable numbers are Trustpilot and Capterra.
Criticism revolves around four themes. The first and harshest: posts do not go out. An agency managing more than 250 client accounts wrote in October 2025 that only about one in five scheduled posts actually published. In March 2026 a user reported not having published a single post successfully in months; in February 2026 another described content going out twice and at the wrong times. On Reddit, reports of Instagram publishing errors have piled up since mid-2025. Some of that demonstrably sits with the platforms, such as the major Meta outage on 12 June 2026 or Instagram’s limit of 50 posts per 24 hours, and Metricool maintains its own help pages on frequent publishing errors. That does not explain every case, though.
The second theme is automatic renewal. In a sample of 40 recent one-star reviews it came up 21 times: the annual plan renews without a prior reminder, and afterwards Metricool refunds nothing under its terms. In one case that meant €638, with the refund refused 15 minutes after the charge. Anyone paying yearly should put the renewal date in their own calendar.
The third theme is support, where the sources seem to contradict each other. German Trustpilot reviews praise it almost without exception, and Metricool replies to every negative review. At the same time, 16 of 40 one-star reviews complain about canned text instead of solutions. Both are true: for quick standard questions support is good, for billing questions and deep technical problems it runs into limits. The fourth theme is the mobile app, which at 2.8 in the German App Store and 3.5 on Google Play sits well below the web tool, with crashes and broken logins as the most common complaints.
One recurring suspicion deserves to be named for what it is: many users believe scheduled posts get less reach than manually published ones. There is no evidence for this, neither a measurement nor confirmation from the platforms. The reports are individual observations.
Praise in nearly every source goes to the same things: value for money, the calendar with per-network preview, the depth of analytics including competitor tracking and ad management at the same price, and for German users the EU server location with a German interface.
Metricool compared with the alternatives
| Tool | Free plan | Entry | 5 channels, 1 user | HQ | German interface | Better than Metricool if |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer | 3 channels, 10 posts per channel | $5 per channel (yearly), $6 monthly | $25 | USA | no | you run one to three channels; its free plan includes LinkedIn and X |
| Publer | 3 accounts, 10 posts per account | €4.34 per account, €3.47 yearly | €17.34, or €13.87 yearly | Tirana, servers in Frankfurt, ISO 27001 | partly | you mainly want to schedule; deep analytics cost double the per-account price there |
| Later | no, 14-day trial | $18.75 yearly, $25 monthly | $18.75 | Boston, USA | no | you plan visually and 30 posts per profile a month are enough |
| Postiz | self-hosted only | $29 in the cloud, free self-hosted | $29 or server cost | cloud via Hong Kong, self-hosted server of your choice | no | you are technical and want full data sovereignty |
| Swat.io | no | €39 (3 channels, 2 users) | €89 (5 channels, 5 users) | Vienna | yes | a provider based in Austria or Germany is mandatory |
| Hootsuite | no, dropped in 2023 | €99 per user yearly, €149 monthly | €99 (up to 10 accounts) | Canada | no | you have enterprise requirements; too expensive for beginners |
| Meta Business Suite | entirely free | €0 | €0 | USA | yes | you only run Facebook and Instagram |
The rule of thumb: Metricool as soon as you run three or more channels and want a European provider. Buffer if you stay at one or two channels. Publer is the most serious rival: it states in its privacy policy that its servers run in Frankfurt, it is ISO 27001 certified and it is actually cheaper for plain scheduling, since five channels cost €13.87 there instead of €16. Deep analytics only start in the next tier up, which doubles the per-account price, and because Publer bills per account it gets expensive quickly with several brands. Postiz if you can self-host and want the data on your own server; for the cloud version the contracting party is a company in Hong Kong. Swat.io if a company based in Austria or Germany is a procurement criterion, for which you pay double. And the Meta Business Suite is enough as long as only Facebook and Instagram are involved. Prices are list prices from September 2026 excluding VAT; the US providers bill in dollars.
Who Metricool is right for
A good fit if you run three or more channels for one store and do not want to pay per channel, if you want scheduling and analytics in one tool, if a European provider with EU servers matters to you, if you want to start free, and if you look after several brands or clients, for instance as an agency or with two stores.
A poor fit if you run only a single channel, if you need real social listening or brand monitoring, if your team requires a multi-stage approval process, if X is one of your main channels and the surcharge bothers you, or if you want full data sovereignty and would rather self-host.
Our verdict
Metricool is the tool a store in German-speaking markets should try first once several channels are involved. Billing per brand instead of per channel makes it noticeably cheaper than Buffer or Later from three profiles onwards, the free plan has no expiry date, and the data protection setup with servers in Ireland and France and no third-country transfer beats any American provider.
What keeps the rating at 4.3 is not on the pricing page. The free plan was quietly cut from 50 to 20 posts in January 2026, prices rose by a good ten percent in spring, and the X add-on doubled. Two points from the reviews weigh heavier: users repeatedly report that scheduled posts fail to publish, and the annual plan renews without a reminder while Metricool refunds nothing afterwards. Neither is a reason to avoid the tool, but both are reasons to check your publishing in the first weeks and to note the renewal date yourself.
Our recommendation: start on the free plan with your main channel and connect Instagram through Facebook rather than directly. When the 20 posts a month get tight or you need LinkedIn, move to Starter on annual billing at €16 a month. Only go to Advanced once a second person is involved or clients need to approve posts. And if X is one of your channels, add €120 a year.
Try Metricool yourself
The free plan has no time limit and needs no credit card: one brand, all the important networks except LinkedIn and X, 20 scheduled posts a month and 30 days of analytics. That is enough to test calendar, analytics and inbox on your own channels before committing to a tier.
Not an affiliate link. We earn nothing from this recommendation.
Frequently asked questions about Metricool
How much does Metricool cost per month?
The free plan costs nothing and has no time limit. Starter begins at €16 a month for up to five brands on annual billing, or €20 paid monthly. Ten brands cost €29 instead of €37. Advanced starts at €43 for 15 brands, €54 monthly, and runs to €130 for 50 brands. All prices are net. Possible extras: €10 a month per connected X account and from €30 for advanced analytics.
Is Metricool really free?
Yes, the free plan runs indefinitely and needs no credit card. It covers one brand but allows only 20 scheduled posts a month, shows analytics for just 30 days with a watermark, and fixes the five competitor profiles. LinkedIn and X cannot be connected at all. For two or three posts a week on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook it is enough.
Which networks does Metricool support?
You can schedule and analyse Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn, X and the Google Business Profile. Twitch is analytics-only. Ad accounts from Meta, Google and TikTok are covered, as is your own website. LinkedIn requires Starter, X costs a surcharge. Mastodon and WhatsApp are missing.
Is Metricool GDPR compliant?
Metricool is a Spanish company based in Madrid. Its privacy policy states explicitly that all data sits on servers inside the EU and that no transfer to third countries takes place, with servers in Ireland and France according to the provider. A data processing agreement is available on request by email with a digital signature, not via self-service in the account. Metricool does not advertise an ISO 27001 certification. The duties for your own channels remain yours.
Metricool or Buffer: which is cheaper?
It depends on your number of channels. Buffer bills per channel, Metricool per brand. With five channels in one store, Buffer costs around 30 dollars a month on its entry plan while Metricool covers the same reach for €16. With a single channel the picture flips and Buffer is cheaper. Both have a free plan; Metricool offers more analytics, Buffer allows more posts.
Can Metricool publish Instagram stories and reels automatically?
Usually yes. Regular posts, carousels, reels and stories go out directly. You only get a push notification to your phone where Instagram allows nothing else: stories with a link, mention or interactive sticker, and reels using audio that is not from the Metricool library. The same applies to TikTok videos with effects or third-party music, and TikTok stories cannot be scheduled at all.
Can I cancel Metricool monthly?
Yes. You cancel in the account and the plan runs until the end of the paid period, after which you drop back to the free plan. Renewal is automatic unless you object beforehand. Metricool issues no refunds for current billing cycles, neither monthly nor annual. New customers have a 15-day right of withdrawal under the terms, but it applies only to the first purchase, not to renewals. Note that deleting your account does not cancel the subscription: cancel first. Price increases are announced at least 15 days before renewal.
